Members of the United Methodist Church of Auburn visited Central Maine Healthcare team members on March 10 to show their appreciation for their work throughout the pandemic and talk to them about the vaccine fundraising effort they helped inspire, according to a news release from Central Maine Healthcare in Lewiston.
For their Lenten Offering project, the church’s Mission Committee decided to honor area healthcare workers by supporting Love Beyond Borders, an interfaith movement supported by UNICEF to end the pandemic. The campaign raises funds for the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world.
Members of the church met with Central Maine Healthcare team members who have worked on the frontlines during the pandemic, led the health system’s COVID-19 response and been instrumental to its efforts to protect its communities through vaccination. The visitors to Central Maine Medical Center included two church members who volunteer at Central Maine Healthcare’s vaccination site at the Auburn Mall and two members who retired from the hospital.
Central Maine Healthcare has administered more than 98,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in its communities. Its site at the Auburn Mall, the longest continuously operating site in Maine, has administered more than 65,000 doses since March 17, 2021.
