Sue Whitney of Poland stirs her homemade soup Sunday for visitors to the warming shelter at the First Universalist Church at 169 Pleasant St. in Auburn. Members of the church started the warming shelter at the beginning of February to help those who are struggling with housing. The shelter is open from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and offers cots for people who would like to take a nap and food, clean clothing and blankets. Shelter officials say they plan to install a shower and a clothes washer and dryer. Those interested in volunteering at the shelter should can contact the Rev.
