The Snowy Nap
by Jan Brett
In one of Jan Brett’s more recent animal tales, a hedgehog smells winter in the air and decides to wander around the farm before his long nap. The animals seem to know that little Hedgie is always trying to stay up later than he should, and they chuckle at his effort.
In Brett’s signature style, she follows him from place to place on the farm as he visits chickens, goats, and all his friends. Her intricately-drawn framing details on each page and the realistic look of the animals and surroundings of nature make this sweet story a visual joy.
My children are teenagers, and I realized while reading this that it’s been too long since I read a good Jan Brett story.
