I appreciate the AP science writer’s article about allergy seasons getting longer due to the warming climate (“Climate change to make allergy season nastier,” March 16).
It is disturbing to know that even with moderate cuts in our greenhouse gas emissions (less car exhaust, fewer coal power plants, more heat pumps perhaps) we will still have a 20-day earlier allergy season within the lifetime of today’s children.
These and many other health impacts are more reasons (how many do we need?) to stand up for strong climate policies to cut carbon pollution. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King are both in the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus and can have an influence — and so can we as constituents. Contacting them is very simple — their staff read the emails every day.
We all want a livable planet for our offspring and theirs, and we won’t have one unless our Congress acts now.
