Andrew Foster, son of Brian and Lori Foster of Winthrop, was recognized at the February Town Meeting by Principal Mark Campbell as the 2022 Maine Principal’s Award winner from Winthrop High School.
Foster, a senior member of the Student Leadership Team, is recognized for his leadership, character, citizenship and scholarship, according to a news release from the school.
Over his four years at the high school, Foster has been an active member of various athletic teams. As a varsity letterman on three teams, he has served as captain of the 2021 Winthrop-Monmouth football team and the 2021-22 Winthrop High School boys’ basketball team.
With the Student Leadership Team, Foster has been a voice for all students as the team sits with administration to discuss topics pertinent to the running of the school. As part of his work in this role, Foster has stood before the entire student body and faculty of the high school to discuss the role of student leadership and present staff recognition awards on behalf of the team.
A perennial on the honor roll, enrolling in honor-, AP- and college-level classes, he was recently recognized as being a member of the top 10 for the class of 2022. During the last school year he was named student of the month for his involvement in school, his scholarly achievements, and for consistently modeling the 5 Core Values asked of all students.
After graduation in June, Foster plans to attend Husson University to begin his pre-med studies with an eventual goal of becoming a physical therapist.
As the recipient of this MPA Award, Foster has a chance to win one of 10 $1,000 scholarships presented in recognition of former MPS Directors Horace O. McGowan, Richard Tyler and Richard Durost, as well as from a donation resulting in a partnership with Berlin City Auto Group’s Drive for Education. Scholarship winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony Friday, April 1.
