LEEDS — Voters approved a $1.6 million municipal budget Saturday during the annual town meeting at the Leeds fire station.
The budget is $151,775 more than the previous year’s $1,462,703 spending plan. Voters approved all spending proposals, including those for public works and highway and fire departments, totaling $93,500.
Voters also approved a zero percent interest rate on the overpayment of real estate and personal property taxes, as well as the recommended $146,006 budget for officers’ salaries. Voters also agreed to halt new commercial solar developments for 180 days to give the town time to study the issue and, if needed, put in place new regulations or extend the moratorium.
Joe Mclean was elected to the School Administrative District 52 board of directors by a margin of 134-33 over James Childs. Selectman Jan Wiegman ran unopposed and was reelected for another three-year term. Additionally, Glen Holt ran unopposed for fire chief and won.
All terms begin July 1.
The current tax rate determined in 2021 was $18.50 per $1,000 of property valuation, 40 cents less than the $18.90 rate from 2020. The tax rate for 2022 will be determined once the total budget is established, including the town’s share for education.
