100 Years Ago: 1922

It is to be of wood, three stories in height and will be ready for occupancy, it is hoped, on June 1. Each floor will be divided into two five room and one four room apartments. The foundation of the present structure to a great extent. W.P. Bhonneman of Auburn told the Lewiston Evening Journal that work has been starting this week on the nine tenement apartment house at 84 Spring Street  on the site of the building recently destroyed by a fire that threatened the lives of many lives.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Zeev Regev, a young Israeli, will address a joint meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn B’nai B’rith Lodge and Chapter at an installation breakfast meeting at the Jewish Community Center, Sunday morning. Born in Russia, Regev settled in Israel in 1948. He attended Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He earned his degree in law and is now a member of the Israeli Bar Association. He practiced law in Rehovoth, Israel, for two years before coming to the United States as an Israeli lecturer for the Boston community. At the completion of his mission, he will return to Israel.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday at the Woman’s Literary Union, Elm Street. Robert Thomas will show slides of flowers in Holland taken during a sabbatical trip there. He teaches in the Biology Departments at Bates College. Mrs. Robert Small will be the hostess assisted by Mrs. Dominic Gacetta,  Anne Kalwell, Mrs. Charles Stauffer, and Mrs. Harold Young.
