HAMPDEN — Mt. Blue scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and held on for a 10-9 baseball win over Hampden on Friday.
The Cougars (1-0) jumped ahead quickly with a six-run first inning before the Broncos (1-1) countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Hampden added a run in the third inning, then the Cougars scored three in the sixth to build a 9-3 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hampden scored six runs to tie the game at 9-9. tied it with six runs.
After Mt. Blue scored the go-ahead run, Hayden Dippner finished off the victory and earned the win.
Dippner and Zachary Poisson (double, three RBIs) each had a pair of hits for Mt. Blue. Isaac Wrigley scored three runs.
Hampden’s Zachary McLaughlin led all hitters with three hits. He also drove in three runs and scored two.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 7, MORSE 2: A balanced offensive attack carried the Patriots (1-1) to a win over the Shipbuilders (0-2) in Gray.
Eight players had one hit for Gray-New Gloucester. After Morse scored a run in the top of the first inning, Gray-NG answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and never relinquished the lead.
Zach Winchester led the Patriots with two runs batted in. Gray-NG starter Ian Libby pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and striking out 11 batters.
Tom Guild had two hits for Morse.
HALL-DALE 12, TELSTAR 0: A huge sixth inning by the Bulldogs (1-0) secured the victory over the Rebels (1-1) in Bethel.
Hall-Dale scored first in the top-half of the first inning, followed by a run in the third and two in the fourth. Ben Nathan drove in three runs, while Kai Lucas notched two hits and scored three times.
Keagan Bellerose pitched a complete game shut out with seven strikeouts for the Bulldogs.
Telstar had five batters notch a hit including pitcher Brody Walker. On the mound, Walker went 5 1/3 innings, giving up nine runs but only one earned. He also struck out nine batters.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 12, BOOTHBAY/WISCASSET 2: Isaac Parker had four hits for the Phoenix (1-0), who took control with a five-run first inning and a four-run second against the Seahawks (0-2) in Jay.
Garrett Hunt added three hits and Lucas Towers had two.
Griffin Achorn struck out three and gave up three hits in three innings before Nate Holland pitched the final two innings for Spruce Mountain.
WINTHROP 16, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0: Freshmen Trent and Carter Collin combined for a one-hitter and eight strikeouts as the Ramblers (1-1) earned a decisive win over Mountain Valley (0-1) in Rumford.
Winthrop’s offense bolstered Trent Collin (six strikeouts), the starter, with five runs in the first inning and five more in the second. Andrew Fay doubled twice and drove in four runs for the Ramblers, while Brayden Stubbert had three and Tyler Shumway, Logan Baird, Matthew Beck and Trent Collin each contributed two hits.
Tanner Henry had Mountain Valley’s only hit.
SOFTBALL
HALL-DALE 16, TELSTAR 4: Jade Graham had a triple, a double and four RBIs to lead the Bulldogs to the MVC win in Bethel.
Ashlynn Donahue added three singles, two RBIs and the pitching win for Hall-Dale (1-0). Sammy Thornton chipped in with two singles and three RBIs, Rita Benoit, Lexi Rideout and Emma Soule added two singles apiece.
Telstar falls to 0-1.
OXFORD HILLS 9, CAMDEN HILLS 0: The Vikings (2-0) scored all of their runs in the first two innings, and Maddy Miller gave up only one hit to the Windjammers (0-1) in Rockport.
Oxford Hills followed a two-run first with seven runs in the second, including a grand slam by Kaydence Morse.
Miller finished with five strikeouts.
Olivia Brown had the lone Camden Hills hit.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 7, LEAVITT 3: The Panthers (1-0) scored at least one run in the first five innings to put away the Hornets (0-1) in Waldoboro.
Leavitt scored all three of its runs in the seventh inning. Sarah Perkins led the Hornets with two hits and Emily Piland had a double.
BUCKFIELD 17, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 6: The Bucks (1-0) scored a combined 12 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away from the Phoenix (0-2) on Friday in Jay.
Kayden Haylock had four hits, including a home run, and Emma Stevens had four singles in the win for Buckfield. Carmen Crocket was the winning pitcher.
Spruce Mountain took a 5-3 lead with a five-run fourth inning. The Bucks tied the game with two runs in the fifth and then pulled away with five in the sixth and seven in the seventh.
Jaydn Pingree led Spruce Mountain’s offense with two hits.
