Over a dozen people attended an Earth Day talk about PFAS, sometimes called “forever chemicals,” at the Excelsior Grange in Poland on Friday. University of Maine Professor of Sustainable Dairy and Forage Systems Richard Kersbergen shared that the state is working to test every known site where waste sludge has been applied. Waste sludge containing PFAS has contaminated soil, water and livestock on farms, forcing some to close. Sites in Auburn, Minot, Lewiston and Leeds have been identified as priorities for testing and will be tested this year. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
