After finishing runner-up in the opening race of the season, Kyle DeSouza made the jump to first place in the second Super Late Model feature of the year on Saturday at Oxford Plains Speedway.

DeSouza took second to Max Cookson on opening day a week ago, but on Saturday he captured the checkered flag ahead of two-time defending track champion Dave Farrington Jr. DeSouza finished second in the Oxford Plains point standings behind Farrington last year.

Joey Doiron rounded out the top three in Saturday’s race.

In the PASS Mods feature, Colby Benjamin took first place ahead of opening-day winner Shawn Knight.

Drivers in two other divisions joined DeSouza in improving from second place to first during Saturday’s races.

The full Oxford Championship Series slate will take a week off this coming weekend as the Pro All Stars Series SLMs make their first visit to Oxford this season on Saturday. The PASS Mods will be in action, as will the Oxford Championships Series Limiteds and the New England Mini Stock Tour — which will be holding its AJ Roberti Memorial race.

The New England Supermodified Series (NESS) was scheduled to make its series debut at Oxford Plains this coming Saturday, but NESS officials decided to postpone the new series’ inaugural event due to an engine-part supply issue for competing teams. NESS is now scheduled to debut May 15 at White Mountain Motorsports Park in New Hampshire, and is scheduled to visit Oxford Plains on Saturday, Aug. 27 — the day before the 49th Oxford 250.
