POLAND — A middle school student at Bruce M. Whittier Middle School was suspended and removed from the Route 26 campus Friday after administrators learned he had created a “Kill List” on his school-issued laptop that included the names of other students and staff.
A joint message to parents from RSU 16 Superintendent Ken Healey and Assistant Superintendent Amy Hediger said Principal Shawn Vincent received a report about the list and followed up on it.
The school resource officer, officials said, “was called to conduct an investigation, in conjunction with Principal Vincent, to determine the severity of the threat.”
The unnamed student was turned over to his parents “pending the results of the investigation,” they said, and “all families of students and staff on the list” were notified. Administrators promised to keep the RSU 16 community updated, but also said they “do not believe that the school community or its students and staff are at risk.”
The middle school is on the same property as Poland Regional High School.
