It’s rare these days to see a person in my district without talking (or yelling) about the cost of gas, groceries, and just about everything else. Mainers face an economic crisis.

Given that it’s an election year, at times like this it’s important to take a look at what the two political parties are focused on.

Maine Republicans are focused on the out-of-control costs we’re all dealing with. We just had our convention, and every single candidate who spoke was focused on addressing this problem.

Maine Democrats had their convention last weekend, and their actions have repeatedly proven that they’re not worried about high costs — they’re intent on raising Mainers’ costs even higher.

During record inflation and out-of-control fuel prices, Maine Democrats keep voting to increase costs. Here are just a few examples:

Dozens of Maine Democrats, including many who are running for re-election, supported a tax hike on gas, diesel, and heating oil.

Gov. Janet Mills and legislative Democrats signed a law that will lead to higher insurance costs of up to $600 per person per year — according to Mills’ own administration.

My fellow pet owners should know that, a few weeks ago, almost every Augusta Democrat voted for a tax hike on pet food. This is unacceptable.

So as voters think about who to support this election year, they should consider that Maine citizens and Maine Republicans agree the top issue is lowering costs. Maine Democrats have clearly demonstrated that they’re on the other side of that issue.
