This is not a conventional “letter to the editor,” but a note of appreciation for the comprehensive May 2 Kay Neufeld report on the “Nine faculty positions eliminated at UMF cut from humanities and social sciences.”

I encountered it through a link from yesterday’s Evening Express piece about the USM faculty senate vote of no confidence in Chancellor Malloy.

We need more newspaper accounts that are as informative and well written as Ms. Neufeld’s illumination of the tortured history of the UMF crises and its implications for the university and the other campuses in the University of Maine System.
