SUMNER — Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters and the Hartford-Sumner Elementary Allied Arts Team are hoping to get the word out about our upcoming free community event at Hartford-Sumner Elementary School, 145 Main Street in Sumner on June 10 (Rain location: Hartford-Sumner School Gym).

There will be an Open House, celebrating a slightly belated Maine bicentennial with our ‘Magnificent Maine Showcase’ from 5-7 p.m., when student displays of school-wide Maine studies can be visited throughout the school building.

This is the final day of our-school wide thematic event, on Friday, June 10. It will feature students in sessions with the Gawler Family Band, Maine Bingo, a traditional Maine flag art project, our newly created Nature Trail with a scavenger hunt, the Giant Maine Floor Map on loan from the Maine National Geographic Alliance, and more.

The updated Harmony Garden can be seen outside and there will be a Pot-luck picnic from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo/field behind the school. Bring a dish to share; paper goods, drinks, and picnic tables will be provided.

All are welcome to stay after the picnic for an evening with the Gawler Family Band, described as a “fun-loving folk, folk-singing, fiddle-playing family from the heart of Maine” leading a concert/dance from 6-8 p.m.
