100 Years Ago: 1922

The pressing need for an adequate public hall in Auburn was demonstrated again Thursday night at graduation. Men and women stood five and six feet deep around the hall.

50 Years Ago: 1972

The lce Cream Company, a Rap Place sponsored troupe of actors, will conduct their first performance in the week of July 10. The children’s theater group will tour 14 playgrounds in the twin cities, during the summer months with three original plays and a puppet show being presented. The Maine Commission of Arts and Humanities is co-sponsoring the group which meets from 8 am to 5pm at the Jewish Community Center. Rehearsals for the second production will begin next week and there are still some roles available. The first production of the summer will be the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a mini play danced to the music of Ducas Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The purpose of the theater is to provide children with an opportunity to see live theater productions and give the participants a creative outlet and spirit of community effort.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The Auburn Youth Football Camp is scheduled for August 11-16 for players entering 3-8 grades. Registration for the camp is scheduled between July 14-31 at the Auburn Recreation Department. Camp cost is $5 per player. The camp will be held on the ‘Chestnut Street Field, Monday thru Friday from 5:30 to 7pm. It is a non-contact camp requiring only sneakers or rubber cleated football shoes, shorts and T-shirts. Supervision will be under the staff of the Auburn Recreation football team, led by head coach, Don Morency.
