LEWISTON — The annual Liberty Festival will return July 4 in Veterans Memorial Park and Great Falls Plaza.
“We’re coming back just like a normal, pre-COVID year,” Cathy McDonald, president of the Liberty Festival Committee, said. “People are ready to get outside again and celebrate.”
“I just hope that people realize that it’s not just about fireworks, it’s our Independence Day, celebrating the men and women who fought for our country,” she said.
The festival will take place along the Androscoggin River in a joint celebration for Lewiston and Auburn.
Each city gave $10,000 each to cover the cost of fireworks. The committee raises money for other costs.
Entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. in Lewiston and 6 p.m. in Auburn.
Lewiston will feature musical talent: C-B-J, Jessi and the Cruisers, and Robert Washington, Elvis impersonator.
Auburn will also feature musical entertainment and karaoke with DJ Scotty Dawg. Both sides of the river will have vendors and food, including Cruzin’ Slice Pizza, Roaming Eats and Nash Cotton Candy. The night will conclude with the fireworks show starting at 9:30 p.m.
The Liberty Festival Committee asks that residents not bring any animals or pets, and follow safety rules for the general public.
“Come, enjoy, have a great day,”McDonald said. “Let’s celebrate Lewiston-Auburn and our country together again.”
