Kudos to Rep. Laurel Libby for having the foresight in March of this year to propose a gas tax relief bill for the citizens of Maine. Apparently, the president of the United States thinks this is a great idea too, and followed Rep. Libby’s lead by proposing a gasoline tax holiday of his own. Not only that, he’s suggesting the states follow suit.
Now, all that is needed is for Gov. Mills to do the right thing … reconvene the Maine Legislature and bring Rep. Libby’s “Act to Suspend Maine’s Gas Tax” to a vote.Mark Chasse, Auburn
Editor’s note: Five states have enacted some form of a gas tax holiday in 2022. They are New York, Florida, Georgia, Connecticut and Maryland.
