Husson University is planning to host its 2022 Pharmacy Summer Camp on its Bangor campus at 1 College Circle. The three-day camp, Monday through Wednesday, July 18-20, gives high school students an opportunity to experience what it means to be a professional pharmacist. Educational modules focused on laboratory skills, compounding, patient counseling, hospital pharmacies, and pharmacy-related careers will be offered in a hands-on learning environment.
As part of the educational experience, students will get to work in a compounding laboratory. Drug compounding is a process where pharmacists combine, mix, or alter ingredients to create a medication tailored to meet the needs of a specific patient. In the laboratory, students will get hands-on opportunities to combine some materials to create a compounded product. Past projects have included giving students the opportunity to create lollipops and lip balm. They’ll also learn about the importance and dangers of compounding, according to a news release from the university.
Living in the residence halls and eating together in the Dickerman Dining Center will provide students with an opportunity to socialize and make friends.
Students also will have the opportunity to participate in outdoor recreational activities. Summer camp sports are another way students can interact as a group and form friendships.
Enrollment in this summer camp program is limited to high school students who will be juniors or seniors during the 2022-23 academic year.
