The SCOTUS has made some terrible decisions in the last 200 years. From the Taney decision that, arguably, opened the gates to civil war, to the “separate but equal” opinion that made all African Americans second-class citizens for most of the next hundred years.

Now the court has gutted the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority while climate change is ever more apparent, made Miranda  practically useless at protecting our rights, allowed archaic abortion laws that — in many cases could actually cost a woman her life — and decided that nearly anyone can have a gun while an epidemic of mass murders is occurring.

So, in rebuttal to Mark Woods (“Rubin went too far with abortion argument,‘ July 14), we Democrats don’t try to overthrow the government if we don’t like an election result. We protest and demonstrate and we vote.

Also, to set the record straight, (Arin Quintel, “Setting record straight about ‘relief’ vs. ‘refund’ checks, July 14), Republicans wanted to return $500, not the $850 that Gov. Janet Mills ended up with.
