The Auburn Police Department has canceled “National Night Out” activities planned for Tuesday evening due to the weather.

According to an announcement on department’s Facebook page, they will consider rescheduling the event.

The national event, scheduled for the first Tuesday in August every year since 1984, has been held locally for about two decades, giving members of the community an opportunity to interact with law enforcement on a leisurely level and not just during emergencies.

The National Weather Service forecasts an approaching cold front today and that could bring showers in the afternoon and evening with chances of thunderstorms.

Shower coverage will be largest in the north and mountains where a few thunderstorms may contain strong, gusty winds.
