COTE EARNS HONOR: Bates College junior Paige Cote was announced as the NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week on Monday.
Cote, a St. Dominic Academy graduate, helped the Bobcats (3-0) to the program’s best start since 2006 by scoring two goals and dishing out three assists (seven points) in three wins over the past week.
Among those wins was Bates’ first over rival Bowdoin, then ranked sixth in the nation, since 1984. Cote assisted on game-winning goal, scored by her sister, Anna Cote, in the 2-1 victory Saturday. Paige Cote also had two goals in a 7-0 win over Southern Maine on Wednesday, and two assists in a 6-0 win over Denison on Sunday.
Cote, a team captain, is the Bobcats’ first conference player of the week since Taylor Lough in 2017.

HAYLOCK’S FIRST WIN: Former Leavitt Area High School standout Ruby Haylock was the medalist in her first college match, helping Bates College take first at Saturday’s Polar Bear Shootout at Brunswick Golf Club.
Haylock, a two-time Maine Women’s Amateur champion from Hartford, shot a 79 and beat Bowdoin’s Shivani Schmulen on the second playoff hole.
On Sunday, Haylock shot an 81 at the State of Maine Invitational, against at Brunswick, which tied for 11th as the Bobcats (321) finished fourth. Haylock score was Bates’ third best behind the 79s shot by Alex Voight-Shelley and Grace Acton, who finished fourth.
Wellesely’s two teams, Blue (314) and White (316), finished first and second, respectively. Bowdoin (318) placed third. Wellesely Blue’s Emily Hou was the medalist with a score of 70.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
BATES 2, HUSSON 1: Kylie Musante’s go-ahead goal in the 70th minute gave the Bobcats (2-1) a win over the Eagles (2-3) in Lewiston.
Musante ALSO assisted on Gabby Hill-Junke’s first-half goal for Bates.
Charlotte Messer scored for Husson and Hannah Kenney made six saves.
