After winning his first feature to start the year, Max Cookson kept his remarkable rookie season in Oxford Plains Speedway’s Super Late Model division going throughout the campaign.

Cookson, the 19-year-old from Pittsfield, capped off a championship-winning season with a runner-up finish on Saturday’s OPS Championship Night. Calvin Rose Jr., Cookson’s closest competitor in the division standings, won the feature, with Scott Moore rounding out the podium.

The closest championship race came in the Figure 8 division. Greg Durgin won on Championship Night, but Dale Lawrence finished second to secure the season title by just two points over Durgin.

Chris Smith captured the Limiteds title, with Ryan Phillips winning Saturday’s feature.

Tyson Jordan was the runner-up to Kurt Hewins in the Street Stocks feature, but he was second to no one in the season standings.

Cam Richards was a dual winner in Mad Bombers, claiming both the feature victory and the division championship.

Charlie Young made history as the track’s first Thunder Stocks division champion, and the exclamation point on his season was a third-place finish Saturday. The new division saw 29 different drivers accrue points, and an 11-car field for Saturday’s feature.

Evan Roy finished second in the Rookies feature to cap off his championship season in the division. Cody Macomber was the feature winner.

The Mods division stopped running weekly features before Saturday’s slate. Shawn Knight bested the rest of the class to earn the season championship.

Champions in the Oxford Acceleration Series included: Maddy Herrick (Ladies), Samuel Wardwell (Sport Trucks), Skip Tripp (Outlaws), AJ Smith (Rebels), Bob Guptill (Cruisers).

Feature winners in Saturday’s Oxford Acceleration Series action included: Matt Morneau (Cruisers), Derek Cook (Rebels), Will Dunphy (Outlaws), Ryan Farrar (Sport Trucks), Amara Parker (Ladies).

The first division championship of the season was handed out at Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday during Group 1 action.

Brett Osmond won the Super Streets feature and clinched the division title in his rookie season racing the series. Osmond won the title driving the same car his father, James, wheeled to a championship in the division last year. According to track promoter Ken Minott, it’s the first time a father-son duo have won a division championship at the track in consecutive years while driving the same car.

Matty Beers finished runner-up in the division for the second year in a row. Beers was tied with Osmond at the top of the point standings going into the race and finished second in the feature to Osmond.

The Pro Stock division has another points feature in two weekends, but Kevin Douglass’ sixth-place finish in Saturday’s feature was good enough for him to clinch the season championship. Josh St. Clair won the feature for his third division win of the season and 14th overall at the track this year.

Daniel Harding won in 4-Cylinder Pros, and David Cook claimed victory in Thunder 4 Minis. The NELCAR Legends series also visited the track Saturday, with Devin Deshaies capturing the checkered flag.

JOHNNY CLARK REBOUNDS IN PASS ACTION

No one left Oxford Plains Speedway madder after last month’s Oxford 250 than Johnny Clark. The 2020 race winner was leading the race with the laps winding down when he was bumped and turned by eventual race winner Cole Butcher while driving through lapped traffic.

However, Clark found his way back to victory lane in Pro All Stars Series action in the tour’s next stop this past Sunday at Spud Speedway in Caribou.

Clark bested a field of 14 drivers who made the trek up to Aroostook County for the Feed the County 150. DJ Shaw and Eddie MacDonald — the Oxford 250 runner-up — rounded out the podium.

Dan Brown won the 50-lap PASS Mods feature, with Brandon Varney and Garrett Lamb rounding out the top three.
