CHINA — Six people were arrested following an apparent home invasion in which a homeowner was attacked and several items were taken, including firearms, the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The incident occurred shortly before noon Wednesday at a home on Alder Park Road just south of the town’s transfer station.
Sheriff’s deputies went to the home on a report of an assault in progress, according to a news release issued by sheriff’s Lt. Chris Read. Deputies responded to the scene along with Maine State Police and agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and took the suspects into custody.
One of them was identified as 24-year-old Michael Seegars of Oakland. Read said the others were all from New York: Joshua Baez, 21, of Manhattan, Carlik Hillcross, 22, of Manhattan, Geneesha Boone, 20, also of Manhattan, Avyion Melendez, 18, of New York City, and Kimora Wright, 18, of Brooklyn.
In addition to the firearms, Read said a chainsaw, space heater and an amplifier also were taken. The homeowner was not seriously hurt. Investigators are still working to gather information but it appears the attack was not random and that it may relate to the sale of illegal narcotics, Read said.
The group is facing a range of criminal charges, including one of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person filed against Seegars and Baez. Some of the other charges the six are individually facing are burglary, criminal mischief, assault, theft by unauthorized taking and theft of a firearm.
Seegars is being held without bail at the Kennebec County jail, and the bail imposed on the others ranged from $28,200 to $33,200.
They all have court dates scheduled for Dec. 12.
