POLAND — The Town Office reopened Tuesday after a COVID-19 outbreak among the staff forced closure of the office for three days and postponed the Select Board meeting a week.
The office was down to one employee Tuesday, who was handling daily town clerk duties behind a plastic shield. Phone calls were not being answered, but messages could be left if the extension number was known.
The employee said Tuesday that other employees were “dropping like flies” last week, which necessitated closing the building to the public Thursday, Friday and Monday of this week.
Tuesday’s meeting of the Select Board was moved to Wednesday, Sept. 28.
Town Manager Matt Garside said in an email Tuesday, “We had several members of the municipal staff test positive for COVID, one of whom is responsible for putting together the meeting materials for our Select Board meetings. The office was closed Thursday afternoon, Friday and Monday as we did not have enough staff. The Town Office is open today.”
