Define what “success” would look like if you are elected to serve your district.
Success is when everyone I represent knows to call me on any issue and I will respect their point of view.
True success is when they know a call to me with any problem in government bureaucracy means I will cut through red tape and make them a priority.
A successful legislative term will be one that creates policies that lowers energy costs and nurtures a philosophy of small business growth through lower taxes.
Success also fosters a strong education system that trusts the professional teachers and the elected school boards to set a plan and strategy to teach our kids “how to think” not “what to think.” Instead of the top down agenda driven “one size fits all” mess currently pushed. Furthermore, we must limit the stress to our teachers from staff shortage. Without quality education that teaches critical thinking a society cannot survive.
We must move back to an education system that teaches kids to divide by numbers instead of by races. As Dr. King dreamt we must judge by the content of character and not the color of skin.
We must move past our differences in philosophy and focus on doing the work for the people of Maine. If President Ronald Reagan and Speaker Tip O’Neil could be friends and Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsberg could be best friends it shows us that disliking someone who disagrees with your point of view is a sign of ignorance, not intelligence, as so many tend to believe.
Characterize your view on public access to governmental business.
Government must be transparent and open to the people. Public meetings, FOIAs, and public scrutiny is the only thing that differentiates us from third world dictators. The extra effort on those serving is the price of democracy. A price our veterans already paid and we should honor.
