RUMFORD — A local man is charged with shooting at two people Tuesday night near Ralph’s Store at the corner of Cumberland Street and Essex Avenue, Police Chief Tony Milligan said.
Devontay Tituss Cook, 22, was arrested near the scene and charged with attempted elevated aggravated assault and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Police executed a search warrant at his residence and seized firearms and ammunition, Milligan said.
Several people called 911 reporting a man on Essex Avenue shooting at two people — a 23-year-old man from Rumford and a 14-year-old girl. No one was injured, Milligan said.
The two were not identified by police.
Rumford police, assisted by Oxford County Sheriff’s Office deputies, responded to the vicinity of the store shortly after 7:30 p.m.
After interviewing eyewitnesses, Cook was taken into custody near the scene, Milligan said, and taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris to await an initial court appearance.
The motive for the shootings is under investigation.
Milligan encourages residents in that neighborhood who may have seen the shooting or captured it on video to contact investigators at 207-364-4551.
