BANGOR — Bangor wont its first football game of the season, beating Edward Little 16-6 on Friday.

Rams (1-6) quarterback Jack Schuck opened the scoring with a 6-yard run that put gave Bangor a 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Edward Little’s (2-5) Gavin Therriault almost muffed the return, but he picked up the ball and ran it 98 yards for a touchdown that cut the Rams’ lead to 7-6.

Later in the second, Schuck found Connor Boone for a 24-yard touchdown pass, and Bangor took a 14-6 advantage into the halftime break.

Bangor forced a safety with about nine minutes left in the game to extend its lead to 16-6.

Later in the fourth quarter, Edward Little drove from its own 18-yard line to the red zone but fumbled the ball away with less than two minutes remaining.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 42, GREELY 6: The Phoenix (5-2) wrapped up their regular season with a dominating win over the Rangers (0-6) in Yarmouth.

Spruce Mountain put the game away early, building a 30-0 lead by halftime.

The Phoenix have a bye next week and then begin the 8-man  Large School South postseason.

FULL SATURDAY SLATE: Maine’s rainy weather forced postponements of the majority of games that were originally scheduled for Friday night.

That makes for a busy Saturday on the gridiron around the state. Games featuring area teams that were rescheduled to Saturday include:
• Telstar at Old Orchard Beach, 6 p.m.
• Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale at Poland, 6 p.m.
Mountain Valley at Dirigo, 7 p.m.
• Lewiston at Mt. Blue, 7 p.m.

Additionally, Leavitt travels to Cheverus for a big Class C South matchup that was scheduled all along for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Portland.
