DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Turner Center Universalist Church on Route 117 is having a Craft Fair on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. We have tables to rent for $15. We will host crafters, have a white elephant sale, offer baked goods, and serve a light lunch. If you want to rent a table or have questions, please call me at 225-3865 or call 225-3945. — Elvira, Turner

ANSWER: Another holiday fair! Now we need running shoes and extra-large shopping bags. Nov. 12 is BIG craft fair day in Sun Spots Land!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Over the years I have been gifted with many pieces of gold jewelry that I no longer wear. Do you have a list of reputable businesses that would appraise the pieces  and offer a fair price? Thank you for all that you do; your column is my favorite. — Kathy, no town.

ANSWER: Remember, not all jewelers will purchase your jewelry but most have someone on staff to appraise it. You may have to make an appointment and then leave your collection with them. I have done this and had good results. Just know that your jewelry may not bring in as much cash as you think. You may want to consider getting it appraised then selling it on your own. If you are internet-savvy, or know someone who is and can help you, that could work to your advantage.

That being said, local businesses that can help you include Jewelry by Alfred (http://www.alfredky.com/; 782-7206) at 1761 Lisbon St., J. Dostie Jewelers (https://www.jdostie.com/, 782-7758) at 4 Lisbon St. and Compass Coins & Jewelry at 185 Webster St. (240-9558) in Lewiston

Day’s Jewelers (https://www.daysjewelers.com/) in the Auburn Shopping Center offers appraisals. You can reach them at 784-6766. Republic Jewelry & Collectibles (https://republicjewelry.com/) at 212 Center St. in Auburn is another option, especially if you have estate jewelry in your collection. The number is 782-7351.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a few favorite t-shirts that have grease stains on them. I’ve tried the typical stain removers but they’re not working. Do you and other readers have ideas? I really don’t want to toss these and to be honest, I can’t afford new clothes right now. It seems like I saw remedies for this kind of situation in the Sun Spots column before. — No name, Turner

ANSWER: I’ve had great results with Suave Clarifying Shampoo. I rub a big dab of it onto the article of clothing and allow it to soak in for 15 minutes or so before washing on the warmest water you can without shrinking the shirts. There have been a few times I’ve had to go through the process twice but it works well.

Dawn Dish Soap is also a winner when it comes to removing grease, and other types of stains. Dilute it in a bit of water first because the dye in it may discolor your clothes. Follow the directions above. Both the shampoo and small bottles of Dawn can be purchased at the Dollar Store. I’ve never bothered with special stain removers because the above method works so well. Readers, send in your tips!
