When we lived in Southern Indiana, we proudly displayed a Black Lives Matter sign on our front yard.

I once watched two people kick it and spit on it. I took it inside, cleaned it off, straightened it out, and returned it to the yard. The community needed to hear its message.

The sign now rests in a window in our house, facing the street. Its message is even more important here in Lewiston after the recent appearance of a neo-Nazi group downtown.

Recently, two individuals in a truck rolled down their windows to yell at us and mock the sign. They only provided further evidence that signs like this are still needed. Black lives still matter.

The sign will remain.
