100 Years Ago: 1922

Delightfully informal was the observance of the annual Gentlemen’s Night by the W.L U. at Chase Hall last evening. There is a charm about the place with its wide fireplaces and lack of formal seating arrangement that makes even the shyest of persons feel the home-like atmosphere. This seemed intensified last evening through the cordiality of the various departments – who were in charge of the event. Mrs. E.R. Field, the President, made a gracious mistress of ceremonies. She gave a brief address of welcome.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Ron King, a Maine weaver from Penobscot, will speak before members of the Maine Guild of Spinners and Weavers when they meet Saturday at the Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Several Bates College faculty members who are published authors will take part in the second annual “Library Faculty Book Talk Series” in Special Collections of Ladd Library, including talks at 7 pm. Wednesdays, Nov. 5 and 12. The public is invited free of charge. Michael Caspi, visiting professor of religion, will speak Nov. 5 at the Ladd Library.
