Marques DeShields scored on a 1-yard run with 7:17 left in the fourth quarter as the University of Rhode Island beat the University of Maine 26-22 in a Colonial Athletic Association football game on Saturday in Kingston, Rhode Island.

The Black Bears (2-7, 2-4 CAA) took a 22-20 lead when Cody Williams kicked a 39-yard field goal with 9:33 left in the fourth. The Rams (6-3, 4-2) went 75 yards on seven plays on the ensuing drive scoring the go-ahed touchdown. Maine then went three-and-out and Rhode Island was able to kill the clock.

Joe Fagnano completed 12 of 27 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown for Maine. Elijah Barnwell rushed 20 times for 98 yards and a score.

DeShields rushed 23 times for 110 times for Rhode Island. Kasim Hill completed 13 of 25 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown, while rushing eight times for 41 yards and two touchdowns.

HUSSON 27, NICHOLS 14: Nic Visser passed for 344 yards and three touchdowns, and the Eagles (5-4, 4-1 Commonwealth Coast) extended their winning streak to four games with a win over the Bison (3-6, 0-5) in Bangor.

Visser had TD passes of 23 yards to Jed Lober in the first quarter, and 76 yards to Tyler Thompson and 4 yards to Dom Wilson in the second as Husson built a 21-7 halftime lead. Visser completed 27 of 33 attempts.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 33, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: Bryce Karsteller threw a pair of touchdown passes to De’Andre Harris, and the Golden Bears (4-5, 3-2 Commonwealth Coast) shut out the Nor’easters (5-4, 3-3) in Springfield, Massachusetts.

UNE quarterback Jarrett Henault was 17 of 28 passing for 161 yards and was picked off three times. The Nor’easters were held to 26 yards on the ground.

AMHERST 17, BOWDOIN 14: Mike Piazza’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Owen Gaydos with 11:06 remaining lifted the Mammoths (2-6) to a win over the Polar Bears (2-6) in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Bowdoin had taken the lead late in the third quarter on a 21-yard pass from Robbie Long to Colton Fahey. Andre Eden scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter for the Polar Bears.

TUFTS 35, COLBY 7: Michael Berluti passed for two touchdowns and ran for one, leading the Jumbo (5-3) over the Mules (4-4) in Waterville.

Keon Smart got the only touchdown for Colby on a 1-yard run late in the first half. He finished with 57 yards on 12 carries. Matt Hersch was 17 of 30 passing for 219 yards, with one interception.
