WALES — Voters in Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales have approved a corrective budget validation referendum for Regional School Unit 4.

In Wales, voters approved the referendum 489-287. Litchfield voters passed the referendum 974-880 and Sabattus voters approved it in a 1,415-865 vote. In total, the referendum passed 2,878-2,032.

A numerical error was discovered in one of the warrant articles of the original budget approved by the school board in May and then by voters on June 14, 2022. RSU 4 officials said the correct amount of additional local funds was included in the budget documents used throughout the budget approval process and that the error was only in the number printed in the text of Warrant Article 13.

The incorrect article stated the amount of additional local funds needed as $1,752,630. The amount approved by the school board is $3,649,523.90. The school board met on Oct. 12 to correct the article, which passed unanimously.

The ballot was corrected to read as follows: Article 13: Shall Regional School Unit No.4 raise and Appropriate $3,649,523.90 in additional local funds which exceeds the State’s Essential Program and Services model by $3,649,523.90 as required to fund the budget approved by voters on June 14, 2022.
