A Whitefield couple face charges in connection with separate incidents involving a break-in at a local market and threatening teenagers with a gun at gas station, officials said.
Rylie Cowette, 19, was arrested on a charge of burglary linked to a break-in at the Whitefield Market early Saturday, Nov. 12, according to information released Monday by Lt. Michael J. Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Murphy said liquor, tobacco, cigarettes and cigars with an estimated value of $400 were stolen from the market, while the business sustained about $800 in damage.
Murphy said two members of the public came forward with helpful information that led police to arrest Cowette. Additional charges related to the break-in are expected to be filed, Murphy said.
Meanwhile, Casey D’Orio, 19, was arrested on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon in connection with an incident Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Maritime Farms, also known as Peaslee’s, in Jefferson.
Police said that while at the fuel pumps at about 7:15 p.m., D’Orio got into an argument with two teenagers in the car behind him. D’Orio allegedly admitted to first displaying the gun in his waistband and then pulling out the gun and pointing it at the teens.
Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cowette and D’Orio on Friday, after a search warrant was served at the couple’s home on Beech Lane in Whitefield.
The firearm used in the Jefferson incident and an additional firearm were seized as the couple’s home was searched, as were several items related to the Whitefield Market burglary, according to Murphy.
Cowette and D’Orio were taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and later released on bail, pending a court appearance.
