Raven, Rabbit, Deer

A young child brings his boots to his grandfather. He understands, and soon they are walking toward a forest. The boy shows his grandfather how he jumps to knock snow into the creek, and Grandpa shows him rabbit tracks in the snow. They spy other animals and their tracks, and Grandpa quietly greets the animals by their English and indigenous names.
The author endearingly tells this little tale from the youngster’s point of view. As they head out walking, the child says that he holds Grandpa’s hand to keep him safe, so he won’t fall down or get lost. Later he covers his grandfather with a blanket so he won’t get cold.
