Lewiston Summer Fun and Films launched its seventh year of free films for families with five outdoor films on June 12. The family friendly films begin with pre-movie activities and programs starting at 6 p.m. with the outdoor moving starting at 7:30 p.m.
“Lewiston Summer Fun and Films provides all families with a great opportunity to have fun during summer break,” said Joe Philippon, Lewiston Police Department Detective. “Building a strong community is essential for safety and this is an ideal opportunity for the community to come together to enjoy summer in Maine. I am grateful to our supporters who make this idea a reality and for the community that continues to support us.”
Bounce houses, balloon twisting, Mr. Drew and His Animals Too, a photo booth, field games and a disc jockey make up the pre-movie festivities. Following the activities, the outdoor movie starts with free popcorn and water.
The program is funded by Androscoggin Bank, Healthy Androscoggin, the Sewell Foundation, Geiger Bros, the Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce foundation, Strengthen LA, U Rent It, Maple Way Dental, Dignity Funeral Services, Sam’s Italian Foods, Central Maine Community College, Lewiston-Auburn Apartments, Walmart, Poland Spring, Bates College, Royal Flooring, Lee Auto, AK Health, the Lewiston Sun Journal, Mumbly Design, Dojo Digital and HPA Productions.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Service providers are welcome to table and asked to contact the organizer, Joe Philippon at the Lewiston Police Department.

• Wednesday, July 5, at Simard Payne Park, 46 Beech St., showing “Clifford the Big Red Dog”;
• Wednesday, July 19, at Connors Elementary School, 400 Bartlett St., showing “DC Legend of Super-Pets”;
• Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Lewiston Middle School, 75 Central Ave., showing “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”; and
• Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Pettingill School Park, 411 College St., showing “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”
