City officials announced winter parking bans Tuesday ahead of the winter storm expected to blow through Wednesday through Thursday.

Lewiston’s ban will run from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 11 a.m. Thursday. Auburn’s will run from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday. Auburn’s Downtown Business District will have a delayed ban that will begin at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service estimates 7 to 11 inches of snow starting around 7 p.m. Wednesday with low temperatures around 20 degrees and wind as high as 25 mph. Thursday will bring more snow and freezing rain before 9 a.m., accumulating an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow, before rain takes over around 11 a.m. through the evening. The temperature will rise to a high near 37 degrees.

All vehicles must be off the streets so public works can respond to the impending storm.

For Lewiston, free parking will be available at the city garages at 62 Canal St., 29 Chestnut St., 16 Lincoln St., 425 Lisbon St. and 1 Oak St.

The Lewiston Solid Waste Facility will be closed Thursday, though trash and recycling collection will continue, officials said.

Auburn’s eight winter relief parking lots are free to the public, but require a permit obtainable only from Auburn Police Department. Vehicle owners have until midnight on the day a ban expires to move their vehicles from those lots. If a ban expires after midnight, owners have until the following midnight to move their vehicle. Exceptions include Mechanics Row Parking Garage and the Second Street winter relief lot.
