BUCKFIELD — Jace Bessey led four Spruce Mountain players in double figures as the Phoenix soared past Buckfield 81-34 in MVC boys basketball action Thursday.
Bessey dropped in 17 points, including 13 in the first half. He made three 3-pointers. Ian York, who also hit three 3s, added 15 points, Lucas Towers scored 14 and Cai Dougher finished with 10 for the Phoenix (10-2).
Ayden Jefferson paced the Bucks (2-12) with 10 points, and Gavin Charest pitched in eight.
LAKE REGION 58, POLAND 53: The Lakers (6-8) held off the Knights’ (3-9) late charge to earn a WMC victory in Poland.
Jackson Libby and Jacob Chadbourne scored 15 points apiece to lead Lake Region, while Brock Gibbons added nine.
Poland’s Johnny Patenaude led all scorers with 23 points, and Hayden Christner hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points.
YARMOUTH 57, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 54: Evan Hamm fueled a third-quarter surge with nine of his 19 points, and the Clippers (8-4) held off the Patriots (10-3) in Yarmouth.
Stephen Walsh scored 13 points and Matt Gautreau had 11 for Yarmouth, which used a 17-8 advantage in the third quarter to open a 47-36 lead.
Noah Hebert paced the Patriots with 16 points. Nate Hebert finished with 10.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 58, MONMOUTH 52: Seneca Jones hit a pair of 3-pointers after regulation, and the Falcons (8-6) beat the Mustangs (9-3) in double overtime in Monmouth to earn another big win in another close game.
Jones finished with three 3s and 11 points. Jake New helped secure the win with three free throws in the second overtime. Zach New led Mountain Valley with 19 points, while Brayden Duguay added 10.
The Falcons dealt Spruce Mountain its second loss of the season, 39-36, on Tuesday. They also beat Lisbon 46-42 on Saturday and last Thursday fell to Mt. Abram in overtime 62-60.
Sammy Calder scored a team-high 17 points for Monmouth. Hunter Frost contributed 14 points, and Alex Orne hit three treys and scored 11 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 41, YARMOUTH 32: Isabelle Morelli scored 11 points and Ella Kenney added nine as the Patriots (11-2) beat the Clippers (4-8) in Gray.
Cate King led Yarmouth with 11 points. Lauren Keaney had nine.
LEWISTON 52, MORSE 23: Natalie Beaudoin scored 20 points and Koral Morin was right behind with 18 as the Blue Devils (4-9) barraged the Shipbuilders (1-12) in Bath.
Ella Beaudoin added eight points for Lewiston.
Haley Kirkpatrick paced Morse with seven points and Danielle Bryant dropped in six.
LAKE REGION 49, POLAND 14: Melissa Mayo scored 14 points, Bella Smith added 12, and the Lakers (11-3) shut down the Knights (0-12) in Naples.
Althea Thornton had four points for Poland.
MT. ABRAM 50, DIRIGO 37: Kharlie Turner scored 16 points as the Roadrunners (5-6) won in Salem Township.
Kharlie Turner and Bailea Haines added 11 points for Mt. Abram, which led 21-11 at halftime.
Jayce Brophy scored 13 points and Grace Robbins contributed 12 for Dirigo (4-11).
