You think you know the classic Mother Goose rhymes, but have you heard about the DADA version? “Dadaism is the rejection of reason and rational thinking.” Britannica says it “favored group collaboration, spontaneity, and chance.” Scieszka, known for his wacky sense of humor, is just the right person to create this book, perfect for punsters. “He tackles the cherished nursery rhymes and Rothman deconstructs the familiar.” Here is an example of one creation called bad libs:
“Jack be smelly
Jack be green
Jack jumped over the jelly bean.”
The book, however, is not all nonsense, because, at the back of the book, there is information to help with learning Morse Code, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, and other types of codes from history. With this knowledge and encouragement from the author and illustrator, you too can have fun with language and art.
