LEWISTON — A state panel declined to review a November 2020 shooting involving Lewiston Police Cpl. Jeremy Somma because no one was injured or died, according to documents released by Maine’s Joint Standing Committee on the Judiciary.
The committee’s Deadly Force Review Panel cited its governing statute: “The panel shall examine deaths or serious injuries resulting from the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer after the Attorney General has completed the investigation of the use of deadly force.”
Somma and other officers responded to Howe Street on Nov. 18, 2020, for a report of a man with a gun threatening someone. The man, Joshua Boyd, fired at officers while fleeing and Somma fired back. Eventually, Boyd and a second suspect, Lee Davis, were caught and neither were struck by the gunfire. No one was injured.
