Maine Revenue Services is rolling out a new online tax system in phases that will replace all current online services by October 2024.
The Maine Tax Portal is designed to make paying, filing and managing state taxes faster, more efficient, more convenient and more accessible.
The first services on the new portal were rolled out in October 2021, with a second set of services added in November 2022. All individual income tax filing, and 10 other tax programs will roll out in October, with the final phase of the rollout of 20 additional tax types and programs in October of 2024.
The portal is available to more than 140,000 business taxpayers and covers 21 types of taxes, including income withholding, sales tax, corporate income tax, franchise tax, cannabis excise tax and estate tax.
The Maine Tax Portal is replacing Maine Revenue Services’ online services, including i-File, MEETRS, and E-Z Pay. On May 31, I-File, MEETRS and EZ-Pay will be deactivated for most business taxes and programs, and the Maine Tax Portal will be the only online filing and payment option for those taxes and programs. Taxpayers and tax professionals are strongly encouraged to print records from the i-FILE system before May 31.
“It’s very important that all taxpayers who can use the Maine Tax Portal create new usernames and passwords on the new online system as soon as possible, and before the older systems are deactivated. Don’t wait until the last minute,” Kirsten Figueroa, commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services, said.
