SOUTH PARIS — National Resources Conservation Service State Biologist Jeremy Markuson plans to give a presentation about bats in Maine at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, in the meeting space at the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District, 9 Olson Road.
Once misunderstood and feared, bats are now recognized for the services they provide and the important role they play in Maine’s eco-systems, according to a news release from Chantelle Hay, district education and outreach coordinator.
Those who attend the talk can learn about the native bats, how disease and habitat alteration have impacted them, and steps to take to make ones property bat friendly. Attendees also can bring home detailed instructions to build their own bat house.
Joining in on the conversation will be Hannah Mullally from U.S. Fish & Wildlife Ecological Services. She will give a presentation about the Partners for Fish & Wildlife Program, which helps private landowners restore important habitat on their lands.
This event is free, but participants are asked to register by Tuesday, March 14, online at oxfordcountyswcd.org/workshops.
