WOODSTOCK — Robert McQueeney, Jr. attends nearly all the Woodstock select board meetings. He has filed nomination papers as the sole candidate for the open selectman position being vacated by Shawn Coffin. Coffin is not running for re-election. On March 27 at town meeting, voters will decide who will fill the open seat.

 
Why are you seeking the selectman nomination? I am always interested in town affairs and have been actively involved with the town for the past 8 years, serving on the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Cemetery Commission, and most of all the ad-hoc boards that come up, such as ordinance committees, notably the Medical Marijuana Ordinance and Solar Farm Ordinance among others.  I believe I am an asset to this town and can do more for the town.

What do you think are some important issues facing the town and what do you hope to accomplish? Upcoming issues include bridge and culvert repairs/replacement on Andrews and Billings Hill Rd. Continuing repaving of all the town roads to keep them smooth and safely passable. Beyond that is the operation of the town office, the road crew and Fire Department, valuable assets to the town.

What is your experience with community organizations, and have you held positions in any organizations?   As stated earlier, I serve on various boards within the town, but I also volunteer time at land trusts, such and Mahoosuc Land Trust, Inland Trails and Woods, as well as Western Foothills Land Trust. Lately, a good deal of my time has been spent at Buck’s Ledge, which the Town of Woodstock recently purchased.  I volunteer with Maine Adaptive and just finished up the last day with the Telstar ski kids program. Within these organizations, I do not serve as an officer, but give of my time. I do not wish to extend myself too thin, but am very happy to pitch in.

How long have you lived in Woodstock? Please provide any information that you don’t mind sharing regarding your age, whether you are employed or retired and if you live with family or are single. When I moved here with my cat, currently 15 years old, and built my home back in 2012, I figured this would be the last home I built. I like many things about Woodstock (Bryant Pond), particularly the small size of it. I have always recreated in this area throughout my adult life, and I am pleased to be spending my retirement here. I am an avid skier at Mt Abrams and Sunday River, enjoy hiking and kayaking as well as camping and fishing. This area is a dream location for me.I spent my whole life as a builder, working my way up from laborer to supervisor and designer. I understand about receiving value for effort expended. When I built homes, I needed to provide a quality product that came in under budget to stay in business. Parts of my jobs over the years included managing low income apartments, doing much of the maintenance on them between building projects. I retired here in 2015, not so sure I could actually do it, but I have not looked back and fully enjoy retirement. It affords me the opportunity to pitch in where I can be of value to various organizations. Or to go skiing!
