I am a senior citizen, an Auburn taxpayer, and am 86 years old. Since mobility is difficult with arthritis, and I use a walker, I only leave my home to see a doctor, needing much help.
With the arrival of March 1, I needed to pay my city taxes. A family friend went to the city building with my tax bill and credit card, since I was unable to do so.
Not only did my taxes increase this year, but because I paid with a credit card, I was charged an extra $61.02 because a credit card was used.
Is this practice fair to handicapped seniors, or to anyone for that matter?
As a retired teacher and as a longtime resident of Auburn, a city I truly love, I live on a pension and feel that this extra charge is exorbitant.
I just want others to know.
