I wonder how select members of the Franco American Heritage Center board would feel if their family had a vision.
A vision of creating a business, whether it be a market, bottle redemption and beverage warehouse or laundromat. Their family worked tirelessly to raise money to build this business and spent years making it better and better until one day, their vision, their dream became a reality.
Their business was an icon in the community. People went there because they knew it was built by good people and they wanted to support the family. The business carried the “family name” on its doorway. They as the owner looked at the name on the front door with great pride and a feeling of accomplishment because they built “this” and it is now a part of their family, their heritage, their legacy.
Then one day, someone new came in to manage their business and decided they didn’t like the name on the doorway. A name that the community knew, loved and respected. They take the family name off the doorway and put a new sign up with a name that is irrelevant, meaningless and disrespectful to the family who built it, and the community that supported it.
Select board members are taking our “Franco” family name off something to which they have no rights. Keep this family name where it was always meant to be, and honor the Francos from the past and present, and for our Franco families of the future.
