It must be abundantly clear to the proponents of the name change for the Franco American Heritage Center that the change to Riverfront will not succeed.
The resistance to this change is overwhelmingly united in its opposition, which is well placed.
The Franco Center has been a living monument to Lewiston-Auburn’s proud French heritage. The resistance to the removal of this heritage from the name of the Franco Center is based on pillars of the community that are strong, deep and immovable.
One positive effect that has resulted from this conflict is that the community has had the opportunity to reflect on the origins, development and future of the Franco Center. The current leadership of the Franco Center should carefully heed the messages that it has received from the community and its own members.
Let us quickly put this issue behind us and turn our attention toward enjoyment of this wonderful venue and treasure of French culture.
