History can take many forms. The word probably makes you think of what you’re learning in school – early America, other cultures and countries, government, and things like that. But history is also everyday events and usually, everyday events are a lot more fun.
The Horribles
This photo is of a parade on Norway’s Main Street in 1950. For several days during the summer, there was a carnival at the fairgrounds, which was located where the high school is today. During the carnival, there were parades every day, and each parade had a theme, like decorated bicycles or decorated doll carriages. Probably the best one was the Horribles parade. You could wear a crazy costume and march to the fairgrounds, which is what is happening here. We should bring back the Horribles parade.
