Musician Ellen Bowman plans to lead Readfield Play Group in song and dance at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 30, in the Breakfast Room at Readfield Elementary School, 84 South Road.

She will also help children make musical instruments to take home. All are welcome; there is no cost.

Bowman, a long-time psychotherapist, counselor and educator, has integrated music into all aspects of her life. She has worked with both children and adults and believes in the power of music to reach non-verbal places. She has documented her work with a woman with autism for whom music is a central language, according to a news release from Pat Clark with the group.

The Readfield Play Group offers area children an opportunity to interact and play freely. Songs, stories, finger plays and crafts are offered, as well as ride-on vehicles, different types of building blocks, cars and toys.

Sharing is a difficult concept because it is so abstract, but demonstrating and modeling the concept helps, especially as children grow.

The program follows the school calendar. If there is a weather delay or cancellation, the play group will not meet.
