Two of the area’s top boys basketball players have chosen to move on to prep schools.

Oxford Hills’ Teigan Pelletier announced Tuesday that he will be attending St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. Lewiston’s Yusuf Dakane revealed earlier this month that he will continue his career at Pomfret School in Pomfret Center, Connecticut.

Dakane and Pelletier were voted to the Class AA North All-Region First Team by the region’s coaches — Dakane also was picked for the All-Region Defensive Team — and were selected for the Sun Journal All-Region Boys Basketball First Team.

Both players are juniors this year but will reclassify to the Class of 2025 — a common practice for athletes who leave high schools for prep schools.

At Pomfret, Dakane will be coached by Lewiston High School graduate Ronnie Turner, who served as Lewiston’s head coach from 2019-2021 and was an assistant for the Bates College men’s team in 2021-22.

Maine United, an AAU team made up of Maine’s top players in the Class of 2025 — including Cooper and Ace Flagg and Spruce Mountain’s Jace Bessey — last month said in a Tweet that Pelletier is its “newest member.” One of Maine United’s coaches is former Mountain Valley High School star Andy Bedard.

Pelletier also is one of the state’s top football players and this fall was a key player on Oxford Hills’ first state championship team. He also won the Class A state title in the high jump last spring.
