We know that older adults are more able to remain in their communities if:
1. Appropriate social opportunities are offered. (Just look at all the local events listed below.)
2. There are transportation options to get there. (AFCI’s Neighbor to Neighbor Rides program.)
3. There is help with household chores. (AFCI Handy Neighbor Program)
4. Residents feel safe in their homes. (In AFCI’s Home Safety Assessment Program, a licensed Occupational Therapist visits a home to assess danger areas that could be improved with simple modifications. For more information, Brie Weisman – 207-364-7056)
5. There are appropriate health and recreational opportunities. (Many local options, as well as AFCI’s partnership programs: Walk the Gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-2 at the Gould Academy Field House; the Safe Bethel Walking Trails map, available in many local sites.)
6. Valuable community services are available. (The AFCI Resource Directory describes valuable local and statewide services: www.agefriendlybethel.org/directory-of-local-servvices.html or contact us to receive a pdf copy.)
