LEWISTON — A Kids Book Club — featuring this year’s Lewiston/Auburn Read, “Maxi’s Secrets” by Lynn Plourde — is set for 4 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11, May 2 and 16.
The club will meet in the children’s department at Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.
Each youth who participates will receive a free copy of the book to keep. All three programs will include snacks.
This program is recommended for those 10 and older, and no registration is required.
At the first program on April 11, each child in attendance will receive the book, learn about the club and receive discussion questions. All participants will be asked to read the first half of the book before the next program.
During the May 2 program, the discussion questions will be addressed and the next discussion questions will be handed out for the last half of the book.
An ice cream party is planned for the last program on May 16, while the book is reviewed.
“Maxi’s Secrets” is about a lovable, does-it-her-way dog. Timminy knows that moving to a new town just in time to start middle school when one is perfect bully bait is less than ideal. But he gets a great consolation prize in Maxi — a gentle giant of a dog who the family quickly discovers is deaf, according to a news release from Sarah Hartje at the library.
Plourde, who grew up in Skowhegan and lives in Winthrop, worked for 21 years as a speech-language therapist in public schools.
